An undergraduate major in political science is used by many students as a background for graduate study—and eventually employment—in such fields as law, public policy, public administration, business administration, and international relations.

Other fields that may be directly open to graduates include public opinion and market research, city or county management, urban planning, policy analysis, social work, municipal management, secondary school teaching, TV and radio, journalism, lobbying, criminal justice, campaign management, and legislative staff work.

The Political Science Department Placement Program is designed to assist students both in identifyng the possibilities after Albion and in beginning their post-graduate careers. The program offers information on internships, graduate schools, and employment opportunities for Albion political science majors and graduates.

The Political Science Department Day schedule:

    11:15 A.M. - 11:30 A.M. Meet at the Bonta Admissions Center (100 N. Hannah St., Albion, MI)

11:30 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. - Law, Morality & Politics of Miller v. Alabama with Professor Rose, Professor Walling & current majors (Alumni Conference Room, Kellogg Center)
Join a special mini-seminar about the impact in Michigan of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in the case Miller v. Alabama.  In Miller, the Court held that it constituted "cruel and unusual punishment" to sentence convicted offenders to life without the possibility of parole for crimes committed when they were juveniles.  The question you'll discuss is whether that decision should have retroactive impact.  Michigan has close to 400 prisoners currently serving such sentences - what should be done with these prisoners? We'll discuss the law, morality, and politics of this issue. (parents and friends are welcome)

1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M.  Lunch with Political Science students and faculty (parents and friends welcome)

2:15 P.M. - 4:00 P.M.  Visit a class: PLSC 338 International Political Economics with Professor Grossman  (students only)

An optional tour of campus can be arranged, if desired.

    Registration is no longer available.
